The Fuji Heavy Industries, which is the parent company of Subaru, is introducing the latest 3rd generation 4 cylinder boxer engines. This release comes in after 21 years of service by the 2nd generation boxer engine. This new engine is a brand new thing altogether with no restructuring or rework. FHI has built a separate factory for the production of this engine. This boxer is new-generation Horizontally-Opposed 4 cylinder gasoline engine, is the reflection of the Subaru’s latest achievements in the field of engineering research and development. This new 3rd generation engine offers a new level of performance which further refines Subaru’s unique expertise in the Boxer engine technology.

The engine’s bore & stroke has been increased which would be available with 4 cylinders having a displacements of 2.0 & 2.5 litre. There has been a redesigning of the intake ports and it has lighter pistons & the connecting rods offer reduced internal friction. There have been several other changes which have resulted in lower emissions with an approximate 10% increase in the fuel efficiency. For the moment there has been no such announcements regarding the power figures so we will have to wait to see the actual measurements when it goes out for production.
Subaru will make this new boxer their primary engine. It is expected that this would be first seen in the Forester.
